Final Project Proposal
I am Vlog Lover, hear me roar!
Concerning the final project for BECA 670, I am really gung-ho on starting a regular vlog. This class has really opened my eyes to the awesomeness of self-broadcasting. I'm not saying I'll be the next Amanda Congdon, (yes, I mention her in every one of my posts)... but I do want to have some fun.

I got a great new digicam that has fantastic video quality up to 22 minutes. However, I don't have a Mac, so in order to make pretty vlogs, I'll need to frequent the BECA Computer Lab to use their Final Cut Pro.
IDEAS:
1. My first love is of course Broadway, I was wondering if I could pair up with my supervisor at BroadwayWorld.com to make a semi-weekly Broadway News Round-Up vlog. I'd take the top stories of the site and compress them into a short 5 minute broadcast with photos and spliced video from the site. This would be a big project and I'd have to work directly alongside Rob Diamond, my supervisor. Perhaps I can tackle this over summer but I'm a little bogged down with work to start it now. But I seriously want this as my long-term PLAN!
2. Last week was National High-Five Day and I totally had fun giving random people high-fives. I got to thinking how fun it'd be to video record the adventure... and then the creative ball kept rolling. What if I did a daily vlog called "Eug Days" or something where I celebrated one of the bizarre National Days each day. Because there are CRAZY/SPECIAL National Days out there! For example, today is National Pretzel Day! I could buy a dozen pretzels and give them to homeless people! What if I seriously did acknowledge the weird National Days, day-by-day, and went to different San Francisco locales to observe them. Giving high-fives to strangers is just the start! I have a friend who wants to be camera-man.
I'd love to do either of these, or some other vlog idea. I'd host the final video broadcasts on my personal SFSU FTP. The only obstacle I have now is access to Final Cut Pro. WHY DOESN'T WINDOWS HAVE A FINAL-CUT EQUIVALENT? *growl*

I love the National Crazy Day idea. You can even create your own "days", if you get bored. How about National Dress like your Pet Day, or National Wear No Underwear Day. The ideas are limitless. Plus, I think preproducion would be minimal (barely any scripting required), and the post production would be WAY fun. You could pretty much make your final episodes as insane or sane as you wish. Good Luck!
I'm in the same boat as you, as far as editing applications go. I have an older version of Premiere Pro on my PC. It is very similar to Final Cut, but I have no idea how to use it. Let me know if you run into any cheap deals (wink wink) on editing programs.
I find that you are the most frequent commentor on my site (and probably on everyone else's as well :) and I'd like to apologize for not getting back to you. Also, thanks for the support!
I really like both your ideas about your final project and just being passionate about doing it will definitely get the project going.
I think that if you are torn about which ideas to run with, the best way to figure it out is to experiment with them by merging them together. Whenever I get bogged down with idea overloads I tend to mix it up and overwhelm it past capacity. In that process, it is better to take out what doesn't work rather than cramming your project with random, unnecessary baggage that isn't the fun type of random (and I love random out of character stuff but it has its own comedic timing).
In addition to your first idea about reporting from what you do at work, try and find the random holidays that pertain to Broadway type stuff and briefly mention that there are other wacky celebrations as well. This would also pay homage to Amanda Congdon :P Just a suggestion :)
P.S. Yes my pic is a headshot (that was shot in New York ;)
I like the the "National Crazy Day" idea as well, i think you might be on to something with that one. Also, why not just useAdobe After Effects? ? It is the comparable PC program to Final Cut and is just as powerful. Anyway, your idea sounds good, detailed and unique...time for the hard part...making it happen...good luck!! Also, if you want some more info on how to get your hands on After Effects, let me know....
I think that a vlog of National Crazy Day would be an awesome vlog! It would be hilarious to watchand I'm sure that your vlog will be popular because your viewers will always want to see what you're going to do next. Outtakes would be really funny too.
